IET Media Presents the John Logie Baird sessions at IBC2024: Strategies for TV and Video Platforms: Launching a new TV or Video Platform involves much more uploading some videos somewhere. It is a large undertaking of coordination and creation of product, technology and business plan. The traditional approach of building it from best of breed technology components and finding a system integrator is now just one of the ways forward. It is a complex balancing of the buy, build or outsource. This is driven by the move towards TV Everywhere that has raised platforms into the realms of being almost entirely software and service defined and exploded the permutations of technologies and architectural choices you need to make. At the same time, a wide range of end-to-end platform providers have come of age to offer one stop shop solutions that are designed to meet your every need, if your need is driven by the same requirements that are behind these platforms. And then there are those who will take the operations load off your shoulders… for a price. What you decide very much depends on many factors and we will address some of critical aspects these decisions in this panel involving some of the leading characters who are involved.

Streaming – the view from each end: In this fascinating two paper session we look at streaming from both ends; at one end AWS shares its engineering insights and experiences in facilitating streaming at “mega-concurrency scale” where in India, cricket drives huge traffic surges (10 million connections in 10minutes) and where a record 59 million concurrent connections is held. At the other end the BBC has been studying actual day to day user experience of mobile services whilst on the go, using their BBC Sounds app - correlating network/radio properties and CDN logs, to determine the concept of a “service coverage” area.
