If my videos are scattered around and not in folders or tagged, whats the best option to isolate them to track insights on them as a group?

I'm not sure how scattered your videos are, but there's no perfect way to track them without some level of organization. That said, I’d recommend starting by implementing a proper tagging system—whether for existing videos or, at the very least, for new ones moving forward.

Tags remain one of the most powerful metadata tools for classification, making it easier to track video insights as a group. Beyond analytics, a well-structured tagging system also enhances searchability, categorization, and content discovery, ensuring long-term benefits beyond just tracking.

As a short-term solution, you can use Brightcove's Custom Report Analytics (Report Generator) to track scattered videos.

  • Select the videos manually and add their video IDs to generate a grouped report.
  • You can schedule and save reports to automate the process moving forward.

This will give you a structured way to analyze insights, while implementing better metadata practices for long-term efficiency. Let me know if you'd like further guidance!

Hi @James Gianotti the best way to go about it is grouping these scattered videos using manual playlists in Brightcove. This method allows you to compile specific videos into a single playlist without needing tags or folders. You can create manual playlist by following the below mentioned steps:

  1. Access the Media Module

    • Log in to your Brightcove account and navigate to the Media module.
  2. Create a New Playlist

    • Click on the option to create a new playlist.
    • Select the manual playlist type, which lets you handpick and arrange videos.
  3. Add Videos to the Playlist

    • Manually select the videos you want to include.
    • Arrange them in your preferred order.
  4. Save the Playlist

    • Once all videos are added, save the playlist with a clear, descriptive name for easy reference.

By organizing videos into a manual playlist, you can track and analyze their performance collectively using Brightcove’s analytics tools. This is a simple yet effective way to isolate specific videos for insights without needing an extensive tagging or folder structure. Let me know if it helped or if you have any follow up questions.
I'm also curious to hear how others are handling this! 🚀 If you're reading this and have a different approach, feel free to share your thoughts. How do you group videos to track insights effectively?

Hi @James Gianotti , are you trying to view analytics for the playlist itself, or are you looking to filter video analytics by playlist? Currently, the Analytics module in Brightcove doesn’t offer playlist-level reporting. Analytics are available at the video level, and you can apply filters and build queries to get the insights you need.

If you’re looking for more granular reporting (for example, grouping videos that belong to a specific playlist), using tags or custom fields would be the best approach. You can then filter analytics using those tags or fields.

Here’s a helpful guide to get started with the Analytics module: Getting Started with the Analytics Module

If you could share a bit more about what exactly you’re hoping to see or report on, I’d be happy to suggest the best way to achieve that.
